Welcome to the Hey Black Girl Blog! This blog was created with the intent to encourage, empower and inspire other ambitious black women by sharing tips on personal growth, mental health and financial literacy.
I experienced (and am still experiencing) so many growing pains after graduating and doing this “adulting” thing (rolls eyes). Looking back in hindsight these experiences are what shaped me into the woman that I am today. Now I am not perfect and nowhere near where I want to be, however, I am constantly making strides towards self improvement. I am more self-aware of my strengths and imperfections and I’m willing to admit them. When I was younger, I had a hard time admitting my flaws and I would try to uphold this self-image that I was perfect and that was far from the truth. Post-grad life taught me the good, the bad and the not so good parts of myself. It was scary but worth it. I struggled with perfectionism, people pleasing and financial illiteracy; just to name a few. Being faced with the ugly truth hurts, but it is imperative to the journey of becoming your best self.
With that being said, I am inviting you all into my life, to share my journey, my experiences, my struggles, and my thoughts as a black woman as I navigate through this thing called life. I’ve always wanted to create a platform for black women, like myself, that will allow us to build up one another. There are strength in numbers and if I can help at least one black woman on their journey, I would have fulfilled my goal for creating this platform. I hope that you become the best authentic version of yourself and that you, in return, will pay it forward and help someone else out. We as black women have to do a better job at uplifting each other because at the end of the day, we need each other!
